What you will learn

  • Knowledge development (online study at home and in the classroom) to understand basic principles of scuba diving.
  • Confined water dives in our training pool to learn basic scuba skills.
  • 4 open water dives to review your skills and explore.

Course pre-requisites

  • Minimum 10 years of age.
  • You may be required to have an Australian Dive Medical (AS 4005.1) if you have any positive responses to a basic medical questionnaire. Download the medical questionnaire form and call us if you have any questions.
  • Be able to swim.

Course options

Flexible day trip open water course

Our day trip course to the Great Barrier Reef is our most popular course. This course has been designed to fit in with everyone’s busy schedules so you can complete it quickly or at your own pace.

What to expect
  • Step 1: Start now and complete the theory component of the course in the comfort of your own home via PADI’s online eLearning programme.
  • Step 2: You then spend one day with your instructor reviewing the theory and practicing basic scuba skills in a training pool.
  • Step 3: You will venture out on two separate day trips on board our vessel, M.V Adrenalin or MV Endorphin, to the Great Barrier Reef. Over these two days you will complete 4 open water dives and put all of your training into action while being surrounded by vibrant corals and thousands of tropical fish!
  • Step 4: Complete your registration and you are a certified Open Water Diver, qualified to dive to a maximum of 18 metres with a certification recognised all over the world!

Liveaboard open water course

A fantastic way to complete your open water course is whilst on board one of our liveaboards (overnight trips). You will have the opportunity to complete from four and up to nine open water dives during this trip, including 2 on Australia’s best dive the SS Yongala wreck if you choose the 3-day-3-night liveaboard!

Choose to do your liveaboard open water course on either:

  • 2-day-2-night liveaboard to dive the Great Barrier Reef
  • 3-day-3-night liveaboard to dive the SS Yongala wreck
What to expect
  • Step 1: Start now and complete the theory component of the course in the comfort of your own home via PADI’s online eLearning programme.
  • Step 2: You then spend 1 day with your instructor, reviewing the theory and practicing basic scuba skills in a training pool.
  • Step 3: You are now ready to board our 2-day-2-night Reef Weekend Getaway or our 3-day-3-night Liveaboard Dive Trip where you will complete 4 training open water dives on the Great Barrier Reef. After these dives you are a certified diver and are free to do one (on 2-day-2-night trips) or five more dives on the Reef and the Yongala wreck (on 3-day-3-night trips only). During the trip you have the option to further your training with a night dive and a couple of other Adventure Dives (on 3-day-3-night trips only).
